Support Shua: https://adventuresinmissions.servicereef.com/events/adventures-in-missions-3/august-2023-world-race-11-months/participants/shua-wilmot
Just a quick post with updates and an couple interesting stories here of how God has been working:
Updates
- This time next month I’ll be training with the squad in Georgia (the state, not the country)!
- In one week I reach my 50% supported deadline. I’m currently at 43%!
A Church’s Blessing
I spent some time reaching out to local churches to see if I could garner organizational support. One church told me they are at capacity for their missions support–they financially support many missionaries, I was told–but I was invited to pray with one of their pastors. It was not their head pastor (who I knew personally), but another man who would meet with me. I could have been tempted to pass up the opportunity and focus on talking to only potential donors, but prayer is an important form of support as well, and it would be foolish to decline an offer of someone’s personal time and prayer.
I drove to the church to meet with the pastor, and I brought a prayer card to give him. We exchanged introductions and sat down at a table. Before I said anything about it, he picked up my prayer card from the table, looked it over and said, “The World Race, huh?”
“You heard of it?”
“Yeah, I was squad leader for five years!” he told me. I did not expect that at all, nor did he expect I was going on missions through an organization he used to work for! We had a great conversation, and he gave me some valuable advice and insights. He then declared, “I want our church to support you. We’re going to support you.”
“Wow, thank you. Don’t make promises you can’t keep though. I know you have a certain budget for this kind of thing and already support many other missionaries.”
“And I’m in charge of that budget,” he smiled. NEVER TURN DOWN PRAYER.
An Unexpected Friend
Someone I’ve never met contributed $500 to the mission. She wrote me a kind letter while I was in the month of veritable house arrest at Houghton University, and I wrote back to her. A couple months later, we had an amazing and uplifting conversation on the phone, and I prayed for her. She then sent support and beautiful poetry she wrote, some of which is picture below. There are very amazing people in this world who genuinely invest in their values in a visible way.
